Cathedral City History
Cathedral City owes it's name to Col. Henry Washington of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers , who saw that the area's Canyons looked like a grand cathedral and named it Cathedral Canyon in 1850.
In 1925 developers built the first housing development and called it Cathedral City.
Cathedral City is a major service , commercial and light industrial hub. It's easy access from Interstate 10 and Hwy 111 contributed to its growth and desirability.
Cathedral city is home to some impressive attractions and famous restaurants . The Mary Pickford Theater and Museum, The IMAX theater, Big League Sports Park, Boomers Amusement Park, and the Buddy Greco Dinner Club .

Incorporated in 1981 , size 19.2 square miles and a population of approximately 43,000 residents. 28% of Cathedral City sits on the Indian Reservation of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
