Desert Hot Springs, California's Spa City

The Ancient Native Indian inhabitants of the desert discovered the very special location of Desert Hot Springs long before modern geologists and scientists discovered its amazing natural energy base .

The Ancient Native Indians considered it as a sacred place, their deep ties to nature drew them to this vortex of energy, where all four energy elements of the Universe; Earth, Fire, Water and Wind all converge and meet in what is known today as Desert Hot Springs City.

Desert Hot Springs is graced with natural underground cold water aquifer that produce the purest drinking water, and hot mineral water aquifer that provides silky smooth water to about 40 hotels and spas with temperatures that range between 120 and 180 degrees. These natural mineral hot springs are what dubbed the City of Desert Hot Springs as California's Spa City.

> The city's history is intertwined with Cabot Yerxa, whose family moved from Boston to the Dakotas territories where Cabot was born and raised on the Lakota Reservation.

in 1912, Cabot Abram Yerxa, came to the desert penniless, and for $10.00 he purchased 160 acres , built a 10 X 20 shack and settled. Having to ride his mule for 7 miles to get water, he decided to dig for it. In 1913, a year later he dug a well which produced his first natural hot mineral spring. Later that year when he dug a second one, he decided to call his land , "Miracle Hill".

The town was founded by L. W. Coffee a friend of Cabot Yerxa on July 12, 1941, and was named "Desert Hot Springs" in honor of his friend's discovery of the hot springs. The City was incorporated in 1963. Size 23.3 squares miles and a population of approximately 19,000 residents.
