Palm Desert Real Estate History
In the 1930s Palm Desert was called Palm Village & had a few homes. Prior to that it was labeled as a Sand Hole.
During World War II , General Patton who saw the similarities between the Sand Hole and the African Sahara opened a desert warfare training facility around what is now known as Portola Ave.
After the war, developers who flocked the desert to develop Palm Springs, started looking east. Edgar Bergen who had a home close by, convinced Cliff & Randal Henderson to buy the 1600 acres used by General Patton to repair the tanks.
In 1947, the Fire Cliff Lodge, Shadow Mountain Club , Office buildings and a few homes were built.
Now, Palm Desert has evolved into the City of Culture, Art, Education, Shopping, Spas and the Business Hub of the Coachella Valley.
