Rancho Mirage History
The most prominent in the history of Rancho Mirage is Les Clancy of Santa Monica, CA , who in the early 1930s started a date and citrus farm with his brother MC, and where instrumental in drawing in many of their friends from Santa Monica, who settled on the lands and built ranches. The most notable was Les & Helen Clancy's Ranch. Now Clancy Lane is one of the most exclusive addresses in the desert.
The 1940s and 50s saw some impressive home developments and communities around Ranch Mirage, such as the Magnesia Falls area, the infamous Thunderbird Country Club and the Tamarisk
Country Club .
In 2001 the Agua Caliente Cahuilla Indians opened the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage, and in 2008 added a 400 room Hotel & Spa to it.
About Rancho Mirage
Rancho Mirage was incorporated in 1973, sits on 24.3 sq. miles, and has a permanent population of approximately 17,000 people , and home to an additional population of seasonal residents of approximately 11,000 who either own homes or rent. Since its inception, Rancho Mirage was planned as a residential community. It sits between Cathedral City and Palm Desert.
